The iron is a few hundred years old and is guarded by a dog who barks constantly except when the carriage passes by and then he bolts.

I only stopped here for a very short time, took two photos very quickly and then pedaled like crazy to look for the distance ... better get away quickly before someone here in Walmsburg pillories me! 😉

The bathing area is very lonely and beautiful. Worth a short detour even without a swim.

Walmsburg (Low German Walmsborg) is the southernmost district of the city of Bleckede in the Lüneburg district. The historical town center is only a semicircular round village and as such is listed in its arrangement. The structure itself is also historic, with the exception of a house that was rebuilt in a modern way after a fire in the 1980s. This is only one of two protected rounds in the Lüneburg district - the second is the one belonging to the Dahlenburg municipality.

The pillory in Walmsburg: According to the documents, the Lords of Estorff acquired the feudal rights over Walmsburg in 1533. The noble gentlemen held their court days at Meyer's court. For minor offenses, the defendants were immediately taken away on the court days and tied to the “stack wood” in the cattle shed on the court. Serious offenses were punished with the "pillory". The neck iron still hangs on Helmut Lühr's barn today and bears the year 1707 and the sign of the court lords of Estorff.
