Nice little rest area with lots of information about butterflies. Be a little careful when using the magnets, recently there was a wasp nest underneath and I got a painful cavity preservation.

After the old observation tower had to be dismantled in 2013 for safety reasons, this new observation tower has been in existence since the end of 2016. It was inaugurated in February 2017 and invites you to observe and look out over the silted up Eggesiner See. It bears the name "Mieles Blick" - after the Eggesin conservationist Siegfried Mieles.

From the middle of the 19th century, there was an estate here with a house and two stables. After that, it was a forester's house. Today, a beautiful rest area has been created here, which is now known as the butterfly clearing after its new design. Source: Official bulletin of the Am Stettiner Haff office, April 10, 2019

The approximately 90 hectare "Eggesiner See" is a largely still very wet silting moor that emerged from the former Eggesiner See. In addition to reeds and marsh forests, the moor areas also contain small areas of floating grassland and species-rich wet meadows. Around 1693, the lake was still 147 acres in size. Today, only a small water source remains, surrounded by tall reeds. At that time, the lake was called Klestno, which means something like "crab claw". This aquatic plant can still be found today in the large and beautiful natural area. The moor areas provide suitable habitat for a variety of animal and plant species, some of which are rare or even threatened with extinction. Due to the special diversity of bird species, the area was placed under protection during the GDR era. Unique to Germany is the regular occurrence of the green emperor moth, a species of butterfly. Protection status: Flora-Fauna-Habitat (FFH) and bird sanctuary (SPA) Source: https://www.eggesin.de/tourismus/radeln-und-wandern/

Yes, the region's landscape is shaped by historical engineering. The Beek Bridge crosses the Beek, which is a continuation of the historical Winkelmann trench. The Winkelmanns Graben itself is a significant historical landmark, representing the 18th-century drainage project commissioned by Prussian King Friedrich II.
For panoramic views, visit the Mieles Blick Observation Tower. This tower, inaugurated in 2017 and named after local conservationist Siegfried Mieles, provides excellent vistas of the surrounding countryside and the silted-up Eggesiner See. Additionally, the Neuwarper See Observation Tower, located nearby, offers wonderful views of the Altwarper inland dunes and the extensive lagoon.
