Freiberg Chapel At the beginning of the history of the Freiberg Chapel lies the vow of a pilgrimage to Altötting, which a butcher from Ballertshofen made during the Thirty Years' War. From there he brought a statue of the Virgin Mary, which he placed in a small field chapel. This chapel fell victim to a lightning strike, which the statue of the Virgin Mary survived. In the year 1712, a new and larger chapel was built by the forest master Adam Kandier, who lived in Deinschwang Castle. The statue of the Virgin Mary was placed here again. In the year 1818, the little church received permission for celebration. In the year 1920, the little church was severely devastated by a burglary. Another burglary occurred in the year 1981. In both cases, the "Madonna" was also stolen and both times it returned. Source: https://www.pfarrverband-lauterhofen.de/freibergkapelle.php
