Hunolstein Castle is the ruins of a hilltop castle at 395 m above sea level. NN in the district of Hunolstein in the municipality of Morbach in the Hunsrück. It is the former seat of the Hunolstein bailiffs and, according to legend, the seat of the Nibelung Hunold. The castle dates from the 12th century. It was conquered by Franz von Sickingen in 1522 and damaged so badly during the Thirty Years' War that it had to be abandoned in 1637. The facility is around 40 meters long and is surrounded by a 1.30 meter thick curtain wall, which is up to eight meters high on the south side. From there there is a view to the west into the valley of the Dhron or to the north to the Haardtkopf (658 m) near Gornhausen.
