It felt like 100 smaller and larger waterfalls all along the gorge! Simply a great natural spectacle 👍

In the further course of the Rötenbach Gorge you will pass the Great Rötenbach Waterfall. The not very easy descent from the path to the stream is rewarded with the beautiful view of the waterfall 🙂 On our last visit, the Rötenbach had flowed properly and was deep brown in colour. In midsummer it is more of a tranquil splashing.

This stair waterfall is striking and yet quite large for such a small stream. Very nice photo motif.

The waterfalls near Bräunlingen are nestled within the picturesque Black Forest region, primarily found within impressive gorges like the Wutachschlucht, Gauchachschlucht, and Rötenbachschlucht. These areas offer a blend of wild romanticism, diverse natural formations, and numerous cascades, providing unique hiking experiences.
The water flow of the waterfalls can vary significantly with the seasons. After heavy rainfall, especially in spring or autumn, they can be powerful cascades. During midsummer, some might be more tranquil. The gorges themselves offer beautiful scenery year-round, but spring and autumn often provide the most dramatic water levels and vibrant foliage.
Many trails leading to the waterfalls, particularly within the Wutachschlucht and Gauchachschlucht, are rated as intermediate. They can be narrow, rocky, and sometimes slippery, especially after rain. Good footwear and sure-footedness are highly recommended. For example, the path to the Wutach Gorge requires careful navigation.
While many gorge trails require sure-footedness, some sections or specific waterfalls might be more accessible for families. The overall experience of exploring the gorges is enriching for nature-loving families. Always check specific route details for suitability with children, as some paths can be challenging.
Beyond the waterfalls themselves, you'll encounter diverse natural formations. The Moos Waterfall (Dietfurt Waterfall), for instance, showcases water carving its way through rock crevices and spilling over shell limestone walls and mossy edges. The gorges are characterized by lush forests, unique rock formations, and the dynamic flow of rivers and streams.
Given the often rocky, narrow, and potentially slippery paths, especially in gorges like the Wutachschlucht and Gauchachschlucht, sturdy, waterproof hiking boots with good grip are essential. Layered clothing is advisable to adapt to changing weather conditions, and rain gear is recommended, particularly during wetter seasons.
Generally, dogs are welcome on many hiking trails in the Black Forest region, including those leading to waterfalls. However, due to the challenging terrain in some gorges, it's important to ensure your dog is accustomed to such conditions and kept on a leash for safety. Always check local regulations for specific nature reserves.

The Rötenbach Waterfall is recognized as the largest waterfall within the Rötenbachschlucht. While the descent to reach it from the main path can be challenging, it rewards visitors with beautiful views and a powerful cascade, especially after heavy rains.
When hiking in the Wutachschlucht, good footwear and sure-footedness are essential due to narrow, rocky, and sometimes slippery passages. Walking sticks might be more of a hindrance in some sections. A hiking bus service connects various points, making one-way hikes feasible.
Visitors frequently praise the wild and romantic atmosphere of the gorges and the impressive natural spectacle of the waterfalls. The diverse hiking experiences, the opportunity to listen to the cascades, and the fabulous views are often cited as highlights.
