In 1856, the Hardesvogtei (Bailiff's Office) was built as the administrative headquarters of the Hüttener Harden Fleckebys. It is one of the last remaining buildings of its kind in the entire South Schleswig region. Today, the building houses the elementary and adult education center, as well as an exhibition on the development and functions of the Harden (medieval settlement communities).

In 1949, Duke Frederick of Schleswig-Holstein founded the boarding school here. Well-known personalities such as coffee king Albert Darboven, Countess Christiane zu Rantzau (Christie's auction house), and shipowner Erck Rickmers attended school here.
