Niederalfingen Castle, also called Marienburg or Fugger Castle, is a spur castle on a mountain spur above the Kochertal in the Niederalfingen district of the municipality of Hüttlingen in the Ostalbkreis in Baden-Württemberg.

Around 1050 the castle was built as a Hohenstaufen complex to secure important trade routes, after 1300 it became the property of the Knights of Seckendorf, in 1368 it became the property of Count Eberhard the Greiner of Württemberg, in 1415 it became the property of the nobles of Hürnheim and in 1551 it is now mighty castle complex to the Augsburg Fuggers, who rebuilt and expanded the castle from 1575 to 1577.

The castle now serves as a youth education center, leisure center and school camp. The bailiwick building located below the castle wall houses the local history museum of the municipality of Hüttlingen.

Rosenstein Caves and Ruins

Highlight (Segment) • Cave

The Rosenstein is a very popular local recreation area. On the saddle between the Glasenberg (telecommunications tower) and the actual Rosenstein there is a parking lot for hikers that can be reached by car from Heubach. At the west summit above the ruin there is a restaurant with a playground and barbecue facilities.

The Rosenstein has numerous vantage points over the lower northern land. In addition to the ruins in the west and the Sedelfelsen in the east, the noise rock protruding to the north offers an exposed vantage point with an orientation table above the ruins. When the view is clear, the view extends from here over the Stuttgart television tower to the northern Black Forest.

The Heubach telecommunications tower has a viewing platform that is occasionally open to the public.
Also known are the many caves of the Rosenstein, such as the Große Scheuer, the Dreieingangshöhle, the Pliksburggrotten, the Dampfloch, the Fuchsloch, the Haus, the Sandburrenschacht and the Finstere Loch. Most of these caves are freely accessible, at least in summer. In total, over 40 caves are known on the Rosenstein [2].

The eastern side of the Rosenstein was designated as a Rosenstein nature reserve by ordinance of the Stuttgart Regional Council of January 30, 1981 with the protected area number 1.086. The area has an area of 22.0 hectares. The protection purpose is the preservation and promotion of the plant and animal communities occurring there as well as the creation of a regeneration area for particularly threatened animal species.

Lauterburg Castle Ruins

Highlight • Castle

The castle was probably built by Messrs Lauterburg in the 12th century. Adalbert von Lauterburg was first mentioned in 1128. A new building was erected in the 13th to 14th centuries and the new Renaissance-style castle was built in 1594; it fell victim to a fire in 1732. The castle church was built in 1607 and is today a village church.

The Hohenstaufen, the Lords of Oettingen and the Barons of Woellwarth are named as owners. Today the ruin is privately owned.

Significant remnants of the surrounding walls are still preserved from the former castle complex, the outer bailey (75 × 25 meters) is accessible, the main bailey is not due to the risk of collapse. The ruin is increasingly left to decay and is overgrown by bushes and trees. The ruin has been a sight on the Staufer road since 1997.
