You can also get a different view of the reservoir if you approach along the footpath from east of Pond Head Farm .

Privately owned and actually situated at the end of a back garden - the elderly gentleman that lives there more than happy for you to take photos.

Parking spaces for at least half a dozen cars alongside this small lake, lots of ducks and swans, who are clearly accustomed to being fed by people judging from the way they flock towards you! Very scenic and a great place to start a walk from.

This is one fabulous place to be: a very picturesque and beautiful little lake, with little piers on its banks in a few places. The tracks and paths around it are well-managed (thus easy to run on). On a sunny day, the waters get amazingly blue colours and the scene is truly Impressionistic!

This is a lovely little lake in Yearsley Woods to jog your way up to. Note, all the maps I've seen show two ponds here - however, only this one remains in reality; the other one has been drained since and is essentially a marshland now.

These routes often take you past key landmarks like Oulston Reservoir and through varied landscapes of woodland and open countryside, always bringing you back to your starting point.
The most convenient parking is at Yearsley Woods. It's a very popular starting point for many trails, so it can get busy, especially on weekends. Arriving early is a good idea to secure a spot. Some walks also start from nearby villages like Crayke, where you might find on-street parking.
Many trails in the area, especially through Yearsley Woods, are great for walking with dogs. However, be aware that some routes cross fields with livestock. It's essential to keep your dog on a lead in these areas. Always check the specifics of a trail before you go.
For a shorter, easier outing that's great for families, consider the Higher Fish Pond and Lower Fish Pond loop. It's a relatively flat 3.5-mile (5.6 km) walk through the woods, which is manageable for most children and offers lovely scenery without being too strenuous.
