The sheepfold now houses an art exhibition that changes periodically. According to the website, the sheepfold is always open from Thursday to Sunday from 3 PM to 6 PM. However, during our visit on a Sunday, it was closed.

Founded in 1982 The Bad Essen Art and Museum Circle was founded in August 1982 by citizens of Bad Essen and the surrounding area. Just two weeks after the association was founded, visitors could admire paintings by the Berlin painter Arthur Märchen in the Bad Essen watermill. Shortly thereafter, further exhibitions followed in other public buildings. Saving the sheepfold The historically valuable sheepfold was on the verge of decay. However, after extensive renovation of the listed building, the inauguration and the first exhibition opening took place in the sheepfold in June 1986. The association was supported by the state of Lower Saxony, the district of Osnabrück, and the municipality of Bad Essen. 200th birthday in 1996 Ten years after its reopening, the sheepfold celebrated its 200th birthday in 1996. In these ten years, the Art and Museum Circle has established the sheepfold not only in Bad Essen but also in Osnabrück and the surrounding area within the art and cultural scene. The sheepfold today The historic sheepfold in Bad Essen regularly offers visitors exhibitions by various artists as well as musical and literary events.
