The ruined remains of Lennox Castle. Originally built in ~1840 as a private property it was sold to The Glasgow Corporation (predecessor to the City Council) in 1927 and turned into a hospital for those with learning difficulties. In the 1940's-60's it also operated as a maternity home, and was the birth place of singer Lulu. It closed in 2002 and unfortunately was subject to a fire in 2008 which left it in its current state.

Cadder Parish Church of Scotland. There's a carpark next to the canal so you can start/finish the walk there, or further along the canal

On a nice day it’s the perfect little spot to take a wee break and grab a bite or a drink. It’s situated right on the tow path so you don’t need to worry about finding it!

Unfortunately everything is fenced off, walled up or otherwise blocked off. But not bad for a walk. Unfortunately, it seems that a bunch of unreasonable people throw their rubbish in the forest there. From up here, go down to a mountain bike trail.

Absolutely. The Madrona Marsh Preserve, located within Torrance, offers flat, easy walking trails perfect for a family outing and birdwatching. It's one of the last remaining vernal wetlands in Southern California, providing a unique and educational experience.
Many trails are dog-friendly, but rules can vary. The Palos Verdes Estates Shoreline Preserve is a popular spot where dogs are welcome on the trails, though they may not be permitted on the beach itself. Always check local signage and keep your dog on a leash where required.
The Palos Verdes Peninsula has several well-regarded starting points. The Portuguese Bend Reserve is a large, popular area with multi-use trails through rolling hills. Another excellent choice is the Ocean Trails Reserve, known for its rugged coastline and restored native habitat.
For a more strenuous workout, explore the trails within the Portuguese Bend Reserve. These routes often involve steeper climbs and descents through canyons, rewarding you with unique geological sights and expansive views. The trails at Ocean Trails Reserve also have sections with significant elevation changes.
You can hike year-round thanks to Southern California's mild climate. However, spring is particularly beautiful when the coastal sage scrub and wildflowers are in full bloom. Winter and fall offer cooler temperatures, while summer mornings are ideal to avoid the midday heat.
Wear sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots, as some coastal trails can be rocky or slippery. Layering your clothing is a good idea, as coastal weather can change quickly. Always bring water, sun protection like a hat and sunscreen, and a charged phone.
Parking availability varies. Some popular areas like the Portuguese Bend Reserve may require payment for parking via a mobile app, and spots can fill up quickly. Other locations might have small, free lots. It's always a good idea to arrive early, especially on weekends, and be prepared to park a short distance from the trailhead.
Yes, there are many loop trails that allow you to enjoy a varied hike without backtracking. The Lennox Forest Car Park – Blairskaith Muir Summit loop from Celtic FC Football Training Centre is a moderate loop that offers a great experience of the local landscape.
