Among the most important Jacobite clans at Culloden were the Cameron, Fraser, MacDonald, Murray, Drummond, MacLean, and Stewart of Appin. On the government side, the Argyll Militia – largely composed of men of the Clan Campbell – formed the most significant Scottish clan contingent. Many clans fielded fighters for both sides, and some were internally divided. Culloden was not simply a confrontation between Highland and Lowland, but a civil war within Scotland that ran across clans, families, and communities.

Falcon Square is a public square that serves as the city's central hub, connecting various shopping districts. A striking obelisk, adorned with a unicorn sculpture at its apex and falcon sculptures in the middle, serves as a prominent landmark. One of the original buildings of the Falcon Foundry, established in 1858 by John Falconer, is situated on one side of the square and now houses retail shops. In the summer, Scottish bagpipe bands often perform here. The square is located near the train station and the Eastgate Shopping Centre.

This spectacular neo-Gothic building opened in 1882 as Inverness Town Hall. Its finest moment came in 1921: it hosted the first ever British Cabinet meeting held outside London, with Lloyd George and Government members such as Winston Churchill, to discuss the Irish crisis. A meeting that would help pave the way for the Anglo-Irish Treaty.
