Rafał Klisowski
April 9, 2025, Pomnik Światowida w Otrębusach

The monument was created in 1974. Its author was Teodozjusz Butyniec - a sculptor, a long-time employee of the State Folk Song and Dance Ensemble "Mazowsze". The monument is a reference to Slavic traditions and the cult of Świętowit. In the highest part of the statue, the author carved four heads of the god, but they are placed on the corners of the obelisk. Below the face, there are panels with the names of towns and symbols: Otrębusy - under which there is an image of a bulging clay vessel with ears, Kanie - two birds with combs on their heads, sitting on the branches of a tree, Karolin* - under which there is a sickle and 3 ears of grain, and the last panel: XXX with the head of a predatory bird and the blade of an axe.

The Chapel of Our Lady Reigning in the Universe symbolizes the universe. The regions of the near Earth are presented by a model of the Solar System. It consists of the centrally located Sun and planets. A sphere with a diameter of one and a half meters with the equator and an ellipse marked with the twelve signs of the zodiac, is an image of the celestial sphere. A model of a spiral galaxy with 12 stars above the head of Our Lady symbolizes the distant cosmos, millions of light years away. Mary has her hands spread in a gesture of blessing and crushes the head of a snake with her foot - a symbol of victory over evil. The whole thing is attached to a ring marking the horizon.

Hidden in the park, it looks carefully at the four corners of the world. " The monument was created in 1974. In the Otrębusy area, there are archaeological sites from the middle phase of the Bronze Age, around 1200 BC, and from the beginning of the Iron Age, 700-500 BC, in which the Przeworsk culture and the Lusatian culture developed. There are also documented traces of a cemetery from the Late La Tène period, settlements from the Bronze Age, and traces of settlements from the early Middle Ages. The areas of the Brwinów commune – where Otrębusy is located – in the 1st century AD belonged to one of the largest metallurgical centres in Mazovia, based on rich deposits of bog iron ore. An interesting exhibition of remains from that time can be seen in nearby Pruszków at the Museum of Ancient Metallurgy of Mazovia. As Dorota Słowińska writes in her book "Pradzieje Brwinów i jego okolic", the area of the Brwinów commune is characterised by a high density of archaeological sites. They are associated with almost all periods of prehistory. As a result of surface searches conducted in Brwinów and its immediate vicinity, at least 136 archaeological sites were recorded." A wide, comfortable, straight path through a luminous, alder and oak forest. The Zaborów nature reserve protects the oak-hornbeam forest with nesting sites for 26 species of birds, including the rare ones, such as the black woodpecker, medium-sized woodpecker and flycatcher. The forest is especially charming in autumn. Perfect place for a weekend short walk.
