It was built on the foundations of an old, smaller church from the 17th century, which was closed in 1888 due to dilapidation. After the old church was closed, masses were celebrated in the cemetery church of Saint Archangel.[1][2][3] The foundation stone of the new church was laid on August 28, 1899, and the church was completed in 1906 and consecrated in 1908. The church is located in the center of Drniš, and was designed by the famous Croatian architect Ćiril Metod Iveković in the spirit of eclecticism, combining elements of Byzantine and Romanesque architecture. Due to lack of money, the dome project in the spirit of Byzantine architecture was not realized, so the building is dominated by neo-Romanesque style features.
