With the growing popularity of this place of pilgrimage, it was gradually expanded and rebuilt until its current baroque form from 1750. The Way of the Cross ends with a cave symbolizing the Holy Sepulcher leading to the pilgrimage church. Pilgrims also came here for the alleged healing effects of the water from the local wells.
