The present church was built between 1771 and 1773 in the late Baroque style, on the site of an older church from the early 12th century (a foundation stone dated 1115 was found). The first written mention of the parish dates from 1251. Until 1945, the church and parish were under the patronage of the Premonstratensian monastery in Geras in Lower Austria. Since 2014, the church, along with its furnishings, has been a Czech national cultural monument.
