Devět skal (836 m a.s.l.) is the highest point of the Žďárské vrchy, the second highest of the Českomoravská vrchovina Highlands. In 1976 it was declared a nature monument. The rock formation is located about 3.5 km southeast of the village of Herálec. The name Devět skal is derived from nine rock formations scattered within a 1-kilometer radius, forming a rock city-type grouping. The entire formation originated from frost weathering processes in the Early Quaternary. At that time, a group of three separate rock ridges was prepared, divided along fissures into a series of blocks with nine larger and three smaller peaks. The rock walls reach a height of up to 15 m.

The water reservoir was created for the purpose of regulating the flow in the Svratka basin, preventing floods and using the water flow for energy. Originally, its recreational use was considered, but right at the beginning of its operation, its importance was supplemented by its use for water supply purposes. Vír I is part of a set of connected buildings that enable comprehensive use of the water resource. The construction of the waterworks began in 1947 and ended in 1957. The main element of the ensemble is a concrete gravity dam 66.2 m high, its crown is 9 m wide and 390 m long. 5 m). One of the construction managers was the later writer Zdeněk Pluhař, who wrote the novel Blue Valley about the construction.

The lookout tower is open every day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Inside, you can order a few snacks: coffee, tea, hot dog, ice cream, etc. Toilets and Wi-Fi are available free of charge. In 2021, we have prepared a novelty for you in the form of a new turnstile, which you will find at the entrance to the lookout tower. The entrance fee is a uniform amount of CZK 20 per person, and the turnstile also monitors the number of visitors to the lookout tower itself. Thanks to this, everyone will have enough space around them and for the tour itself. You can also pay by card.
