From here you can wonderfully see the Plön Castle. Ideal to take a break. A park bench is also available. Idyllic: A small stream flows here into the great Plöner See. You have to take the small path down to the water from the main path.

Prinzenhaus and Plön Castle Park

Highlight • Historical Site

The Prince's House in Plön in Schleswig-Holstein is a former garden palace in the park of Plön Palace. It is the only surviving pleasure palace in the state. It got its current name because it served as a residence and school for the sons of the German Emperor Wilhelm II at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. At that time it was enlarged with two annexes.

Kletkamp Estate

Highlight • Historical Site

The Kletkamp estate lies on the edge of Holstein Switzerland in a deep,
lowland filled with waterways and lakes.

The current manor house stands on the site of a medieval moated castle,
which had belonged to the Knights of Kletkamp since 1253.
At the center of the estate is the Kletkamp manor house. It is essentially

a half-timbered Renaissance building from the Rantzau period, but was remodeled and expanded by the Brockdorf family with Baroque and Neoclassical architectural elements.

During investigations in the 1970s, ceiling structures were exposed
and the wood was dendrochronologically examined, resulting in the construction date
of the core structure being dated to 1547. According to these results, it is the oldest manor house in Schleswig-Holstein. The house is a distinctive building with two
very different facades.

The older core building, facing the park, is a two-story, hipped-roof brick structure with a central projection, remodeled in the 19th century, featuring a third-story central risalit and a high triangular gable, and presents a rather down-to-earth impression. Toward the courtyard, a strongly projecting, white-plastered central building was added in 1676 under Cai Lorenz von Brockdorff, rising to an impressive height of five stories. It stands out from the typical Holstein manor house type and likely follows Dutch models.

Atop a three-story, five-axis front facade sits a three-axis fourth floor, topped by volute gables on the sides. Above it, a turret with a lantern rises as the fifth floor. This turret was reconstructed after a fire in 1952. The interior is characterized by neoclassical alterations from the early 19th century. During repair work, a richly painted wooden beam ceiling from the early 17th century was discovered above the stucco ceiling of the dining room and relocated to the hallway on the upper floor.

Another distinctive building is the gatehouse, dating from 1775, with richly ornamented masonry and strongly curved roofs decorated with small obelisks. Along with the gatehouses of Quarnbek Estate, Testorf Estate, and Hasselburg Estate, it is one of the most beautiful in the country.

The oldest parts of Kletkamp Estate are known to be the oldest manor house in Schleswig-Holstein. It has been the ancestral seat of the Counts of Brockdorff since 1612, but an earlier building dates back to the 13th century. Today, the estate offers several vacation apartments. The view of the Kletkamp Lakes is also wonderful.

200 lakes close together, with Schleswig-Holstein's largest lake at its center: that's Holstein Switzerland. It's not without reason that this "lake paradise" is one of the most popular vacation regions for water sports enthusiasts, nature lovers, families, and those looking to slow down from the stresses of big city life. The Great Plön Lake, with its deep blue waters and pristine shoreline, entices visitors to spend relaxing holidays on, in, and around the lake. Whether paddling, sailing, fishing, swimming, diving, or golfing near the lake – the options are endless. Furthermore, the 30 square kilometer expanse of water with a depth of 58 meters invites you to enjoy relaxing lake views. And all around the lake, picturesque towns like Plön, Bosau, and Dersau boast a wealth of culture, history, and nature. It's no wonder this lake has been awarded the seal of "Schleswig-Holstein's Favorite Lake" several times in a row.

During this time, the interior was changed significantly. From 1946 to 2001, the castle served as a boarding school before it was sold in 2002 to the owner of Fielmann AG, Prof. Dr. Günther Fielmann, who set up an optician academy there. https://www.herrenhaeuser.sh › ... Plön Castle
