Wiśnicz Castle

Highlight • Castle

Entry costs 18 zl. The tour takes place in small groups. Unfortunately there are no English tours. The castle is definitely worth seeing. There are also plenty of parking spaces in front of the castle.
Wiśnicz Castle was built in the middle of the 14th century. In the 16th century it was transformed into a splendid Renaissance castle. From 1615 to 1621, the outer defenses were fundamentally modernized.

The current building was constructed between 1833 and 1839 and consecrated in 1842 by the Bishop of Tarnów, Józef Wojtarowicz. In 1914, during the First World War, the tower and bell tower were destroyed. In 1915 the church was provisionally rebuilt, with the then active carpenter Paweł Wieczorek taking part in the reconstruction. Between 1924 and 1926 the church was rebuilt and enlarged according to the design of the architect Zdzisław Mączeński. At that time, side chapels were built, the tower was rebuilt and the facade was redesigned. In 1962-1963 the roofs of the church were raised and the characteristic tower was rebuilt according to the design of architect Antoni Mazur (Translated from Wikipedia).
