For the devout Christian, each of these small sacred monuments shows not only the death (and resurrection) of the Son of God, but is also a perpetual sign of God's love for us humans. The cross stands here in memory of the deceased and our hope for eternal life. Recently, the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, preaching with reference to the word of the Apostle Paul in the Letter to the Romans (Rom 8:38-39), said: "The love of God is faithful. Nothing can conquer it or separate us from it, for it is the gift of the Lord, it comes from him and is generously given to us beyond all our merits and weaknesses... It is precisely in the invincible love of the Lord and the faithful response to this gift that we must seek the root of strength."

Susi and Bettina have already reported extensively on the Geringer Mühle. Even if you pass by for the third or fifth time, you are always amazed by the water wheel with the dragon spout, or you take a look into the small chapel.

The chapel was built in 1856 as a small religious structure in the form of a wayside shrine and served the local population as a place of devotion and prayer. Over the decades, however, the building gradually fell into disrepair, was eventually abandoned and partially destroyed. Many years later, from the early 2000s onwards, the desire arose to restore the structure as a cultural and historical memorial. Through voluntary commitment and donations, the chapel was finally faithfully reconstructed, secured, and rebuilt.

“Lord Jesus, eternal Word of the Father, you have become silence for us. And in the silence that leads us to your tomb, there is still one word we want to say to you as we remember the Way of the Cross that we have walked with you: Thank you! Thank you, Lord Jesus, for the meekness that brings down arrogance. Thank you, for the courage with which you took up the Cross. Thank you for the peace that flows from your wounds. Thank you for giving us your holy Mother as our Mother too. Thank you for the love you showed in the face of betrayal. Thank you for turning tears into smiles. Thank you for loving everyone, without excluding anyone. Thank you for the hope you instill in the hour of trial. Thank you for the mercy that heals misery. Thank you for laying aside everything to make us rich. Thank you for transforming the Cross into a tree of life. Thank you for the forgiveness you offered your murderers. Thank you for defeating death. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for the light you have kindled in our nights, for reconciling every separation and thus making us all brothers and sisters, children of the same Father in heaven.” (Prayer for the Way of the Cross with the Holy Father, Pope Francis, Good Friday 2023 at the Roman Colosseum)
