Attention! Slippery cobblestones with large cracks, but this is a classic. He who has not driven up and down Karowa has not driven in Warsaw ;)

Karowa Street – a street in the Śródmieście district of Warsaw. At the end of the 19th century, the street was one of the few connections between the upper part of Warsaw and Powiśle. After the construction of the Marconi waterworks in the years 1851–1855, two street fountains were opened in the gate erected at the exit of Karowa Street on Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, and a sculpture of the Mermaid was placed above the gate[4]. In the December issue of "Tygodnik Ilustrowany" from 1885, an ambitious project for the development of Karowa was published. It began with the demolition of the Marconi gate, widening and canalization of Karowa. Then the land was purchased from the Visitationist monastery. In 1900, construction of a spiral exit began. After four years, a reinforced concrete viaduct connected the Warsaw escarpment with a special embankment[5]. In 1935, work began on the design of a new road bridge named after Marshal Józefa Piłsudskiego on the street axis[6]. Construction of a two-level crossing on stone pillars was to begin in 1941[6]. The street's development suffered during the defense of Warsaw in September 1939[7]. In February 1945 (at the end of World War II), at the exit of the street, Red Army sappers put into operation a high-water bridge over the Vistula[8]. On the street axis and Stefana Okrzei Street (in Praga-Północ) in the years 2022–2024, a footbridge over the Vistula was built[9].
