June 29, 2025, French Soldiers Memorial (1945) in Urle

Urle graves of French soldiers killed in 1945. A symbolic grave commemorating the French soldiers killed in this area in 1945. On three plaques the names of soldiers "SOLDAU, Pierre Mazerac, Henri Bonnin, Camille Desplat, KATZENDORF, Julien Dhuin, Lucien Renard, Jean Perie, Jean Meveu Maurice, Auguste Tasse, Andre Saget, Joseeh Gamelin" On the step in front of the cross pedestal there is a plaque with an illegible inscription: "A LA MEMOIRE DES FRANCAIS MORTS LOIN DE LEUR PATRIE MAI 1945" Which translates to: "In memory of the French who died far from their homeland May 1954" A few meters from the grave with the green cross there is a small single grave: Danilo Slaviero, lived 21 years, died 23.03.1945. source: https://okolicewyszkowa.blogspot.com/2014/03/urle-groby-zonierzy-francuskich.html

The building was funded by Count Zdzisław Zamoyski. Construction work began in 1882 thanks to the efforts of Father Piotr Brzozowski. Construction was completed in 1886. The church was consecrated by the Archbishop of Warsaw, Father Wincenty Teofil Popiel. Since 1893, the church has housed relics of the Holy Cross donated by Cardinal Mieczysław Ledóchowski, Archbishop of Gniezno and Poznań. They are currently framed in a cross-shaped reliquary. On September 15, 2013, the church in Jadów was raised to the rank of the Sanctuary of the Holy Cross by the Archbishop of Warsaw-Praga Henryk Hoser.

Kamieńczyk is one of the oldest villages in the Wyszków commune, picturesquely situated in the Kamieniecka Forest, at the mouth of the Liwiec River into the Bug. In 1973, archaeologists discovered a Proto-Slavic cemetery near the village. The research carried out proved that there was a settlement of the Lusatian culture in this place as early as 4 thousand years BCE. In the past, many residents of the area were engaged in rafting in the summer. To commemorate them, in 2002, a monument to a raftsman by Elżbieta Pietras was erected in the place of the former town market. Kamieńczyk lost its town rights, obtained in 1452, under the Tsar's decree in 1896 and never regained them. During the times of the town, there was a defensive castle, town hall, cloth hall and bridges over the Bug and Liwiec.
