Świnoujście Promenade

Highlight • Rest Area

Swinemünde has a beautiful and quite long promenade lined with many buildings in the style of seaside resort architecture. This promenade stretches (across the border) via Ahlbeck and Heringsdorf to Bansin. It is approximately 12 kilometers long.

It is also known as "the longest promenade in Europe."

Compared to Heringsdorf and Ahlbeck, Swinemünde has some unique features.

Firstly, the numerous kiosks selling food, drinks, and souvenirs are striking. Secondly, there is a small forest between the promenade and the beach. The sand that is washed away by the sea from other parts of the island is deposited in Swinemünde.

While the beach used to begin right behind the promenade, today there is sometimes a 200-meter gap between the promenade and the beach.

The sea is thus receding further and further from the Swinemünde promenade.

Stawa Młyny (Windmill Beacon)

Highlight • Monument

The landmark of Swinoujscie. The mill beacon stands on the western pier and shows ships the entrance to the Swine. The stylized windmill is almost 10 meters high and was built in the 19th century. However, it was not painted white until much later. The photo spot in Swinoujscie par excellence: one of the most romantic places in Swinoujscie.

Świnoujście Beach

Highlight • Beach

The beach in Świnoujście is the widest beach on the island of Usedom. Sand that has been eroded from other parts of the island is constantly washing up here. The beach is sandy and several kilometers long. To the east, it is bordered by the western pier with the Mühlenbake (mill beacon), and to the west by the German-Polish border off Ahlbeck. However, this border does not hinder beach walks toward Ahlbeck.

The water is initially shallow, so even children can swim. Beach chairs are still relatively rare; most people bring their own windbreaks or blankets. Directly outside the town, the beach is quite busy in good summer weather.

Toward Ahlbeck, however, it becomes quieter. Those seeking complete peace and quiet can take the ferry across the Świna River. Then find a spot on the beach on the island of Wolin, east of the Świna. Until Międzyzdroje – about 15 kilometers away – there are no other beach resorts, and everyone can find a quiet spot on the almost deserted beach.

Our tour from Swinemünde to Misdroy was a disaster despite using e-bikes. Ku Morzu road and the branching cycle path 10/13 are partially closed. The alternative route via forest tracks with deep ruts is difficult to navigate. We didn't have time to return, so we took the train. The friendly train attendant tolerated the lack of a pre-booked seat on the Intercity train after a warning.

Velo Baltica is a route that forms part of the international EuroVelo 10 (R10 cycle route), which circumnavigates the Baltic Sea. The name "Velo Baltica" refers specifically to the Polish section of this route. At approximately 540 km long, it is one of the longest marked cycle routes in Poland. It begins in Świnoujście and ends in Elbląg, running largely close to the sea, sometimes even along its shoreline. Along the way, it passes through Kołobrzeg, Darłowo, Ustka, Łeba, Puck, and the Tri-City area. Velo Baltica is a common name, originally introduced by the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. However, this name is generally used to refer to the entire Polish section of the EuroVelo 10 route. Its terrain also partially overlaps with the Iron Curtain Trail (EuroVelo 13). This makes the route popular not only with tourists from Poland.

It's a very cool tour. Be sure to take the new bike path with a view of the beach and the Baltic Sea. The most beautiful 3 km long bike path I've ever ridden....and in Misdroy at the very end of the stalls right on the beach eat very good and fresh fish :-)

The sound of the sea, birds singing, a golden beach among the trees. Who does not pedal, does not eat. Wonderful views to the right and left, also straight ahead. Beautiful piece of path overlooking the sea. I recommend 👈

Świnoujście is separated by the Świna (arm of the Baltic Sea) and is therefore located on the islands of Usedom and Wolin. The two ports in Świnoujście, between which the city ferry also travels, could not be more different. On Usedom is the yacht/sailing harbor with its harbor bar “Tawerna” and on Wolin is the trading port with its industrial facilities and repair yard. The ferry ride takes about 10 minutes and can be used free of charge by cyclists and pedestrians (as of August 2022). During the journey, you have a view of the two harbors of Świnoujście and the water tower, which is located at the yacht/sail harbor.
