A must-see for anyone visiting Évora. Its morbid charm is fascinating, and the thousands upon thousands of bones serve as a reminder of one's own mortality. On the ceiling, you can discover various paintings and sayings about death and dying, and I would never have imagined how decoratively the bones were arranged in the chapel.

Giraldo Square is the main square in the city of Évora. It has undergone several changes over the years. Not so long ago, a traffic policeman stood there, directing the direction of Rua Cinco de Outubro, when cars circulated here and around the square. It was a parking lot and passenger pick-up point for a large fleet of taxis. It was the venue for meetings and business dealings among local farmers every Tuesday. Nowadays, it is largely occupied by the terraces of the surrounding restaurants and pastry shops. 👍🥾

At the center of Évora stands the Baluarte do Principe fortress, a testament to the city's strategic military importance in the 17th century. Built to withstand sieges, the fortress boasts sturdy stone walls and impressive views of the surrounding countryside. Évora's city defense system consists of two lines of walls, representing different time periods. The second wall, known as the Cerca-Nova, is a medieval construction dating back to the 16th century. It was reinforced over time and fortified with some very advanced bastions in the 17th century.

They were built using architectural materials from the ruins of various monuments throughout the city, primarily remnants of two-tone windows in the Manueline-Mudéjar style. They are an integral part of a tower and part of the medieval city wall. Directly adjacent is the Palace of D. Manuel. Several pairs of peacocks can be found around the ruins.
