For those of us who are older, it reminds us of what it was like to cross from one country to another, when you might randomly have to open the trunk of your car so that both police forces could check what you were carrying, so that younger people could get their documents, and above all so that everyone can see how beautiful and enriching it is to be able to live in peace between neighboring countries.

Barbeita Bridge - Mouro River - Monção - Portugal The bridge over the Mouro River is located in Ponte de Mouro, connecting Barbeita to Ceivães over the Mouro River, in Monção. It is known that a bridge existed at this location at least as early as 1386. It was here that, in that year, the historic meeting between King John I and the Duke of Lancaster, pretender to the throne of Castile, took place. The marriage of the Portuguese king to Philippa of Lancaster, the duke's daughter, was also arranged. The old bridge visible today underwent renovations in 1627.

The Danaide Fountain is the most important in Monção and takes its name from the statue that crowns it, at whose base the name "Danaide" can be read. In her right hand, the woman carries a sieve. The original fountain was built in 1837, a little further towards the square. Water flowed from the column, which was collected by the population and also fed a pond where clothes could be washed and livestock watered. In 1869, the column was renovated and engraved with the coat of arms of the city of Monção. In the 1940s, the fountain was remodeled, making it less useful and serving only as a decorative object. The column was placed in its current location.
