This extremely photogenic bridge crosses the Soča near Kobarid over a narrow rocky channel. The transition at this point has always been important. Only a few places along the raging river offered the opportunity to build a bridge.

In 1758/1759 the old wooden structure was replaced by a stone arch bridge. At that time there were Napoleonic troops in the region, which is how the building got its famous name.

However, none of the French were involved in the construction. The bridge was blown up during the Isonzo battles in World War I and was only rebuilt after the war.

Krn (2,244 m)

Highlight • Summit

One of the highest peaks in Slovenia, the fantastic view rewards the climb. As there is no shade on the path, caution is advised on very sunny and hot days. After rain, the path over meadows and stones can be slippery.

The old Napoleon Bridge was built in 1750, gaining its name from when Napoleon's troops marched across it to get to Predel Pass. It was later destroyed in WWI by Austrian soldiers, rebuilt by the Italians in wooden and iron iterations before this stone bridge was erected.

Soča River (Isonzo)

Highlight • River

Beautiful nature crossed by this magnificent gorge. The play of colors of the water goes from transparent to deep azure. Absolutely worth seeing. Cave: In wet weather (always), the stones are very slippery!

This point is confusing. There is only a parking lot here. From here it is about a 15 minute walk to the waterfall.

Soča Gorge

Highlight • Gorge

1750 was the old stone Napoleon bridge with only a bridge arch. On the bridge, Napoleon's troops marched towards Predel, hence the name.

In the First World War, this bridge was blown up by the Austrian army, later the Italians built a wooden bridge and then followed by an iron bridge. During the Second World War, the partisans defended the Republic of Kobarid here. In commemoration of these events, two commemorative plaques are erected on the bridge.

A classic historic bridge, very well preserved or renovated. Combined with the eroded gorge and the emerald-colored waters of the Soca, the bridge's value increases. All in all, it's a free tourist attraction.
