This is a super good recreation trail built along an abandoned tobacco railway line. Hence it is aptly named the American Tobacco Trail. It's a 22.6-mile long Rails-to-Trails project that crosses through Durham County, Chatham County, and Wake County. It has a variety of facilities and connector trailheads along the way. Riders routinely ride the entire length of the ATT with a road bike. Gatorskin tires will hold up very well. Especially so if you have 28-32mm tires on. Watch out for runners and other trail users!

North Carolina's Mountains to the Sea Trail is a brilliant 1,175 mile hiking trail that stretches across from the Great Smoky Mountains to the Outer Banks. As it meanders across the state's lofty tops it passes numerous beautiful places along its length. Most of this trail is a hiking trail but stretches of it are open to cyclists on connecting roads. This is one such stretch.

This is a lovely midway connector trailhead for the American Tobacco Trail. It has nice restrooms, bike racks, picnic area, a covered area and lots of parking. This is truly an excellent rest stop along the trail whether you are turning back to Durham or continuing on the crushed gravel section towards Jordan Lake.
