Lake Königssee

Highlight • Lake

The Königssee lies like a fjord between steeply rising gray rock faces. The almost 2,000 meter high walls are so steep that they plunge seamlessly into the water of the lake. Since there is no path along the shore, the fastest and most promising way for you is across the lake with one of the excursion boats. In order to protect the water quality and nature, all boats used are operated exclusively with electric motors or physical power.

The Malerwinkel is a popular vantage point on the north shore of the Königssee. The view from the Malerwinkel over the otherwise difficult to reach Königssee extends over the pilgrimage church of St. Bartolomä to the Schönfeldpitze in the Steinernen Meer.

From the Königssee car park, a path leads past the picturesque boat sheds to the Berchtesgaden National Park. Past the Café Malerwinkel, the walk leads to the so-called Malerwinkel. This hike is also very popular as a winter walk, then the way to the Malerwinkel is cleared and scattered.

Attention: Do not follow the narrow path that follows from the Malerwinkel along the banks of the Königssee. This is an old trail, which is now decayed and a great danger of falling!

Eckau-Forststraße to Eckau-Alm with turnoff to the Schwarzederer-Wendeplatte; 4. Schappachstraße and Hammerstielstraße to Kühroint - turning point in front of the Archenkanzel - and forest road to Herrenroint; 5. Gotzenstraße and Hochbahnweg to Gotzenalm and access to the Stahlhaus; 6. Ligeretstrasse. The supplement to approved cycle paths from 2012 is in the Official Journal for the district of Berchtesgadener Land No. 20 from 05/15/2012 on page 127ff. (https://www.lra-bgl.de/t/das-landratsamt/amtsblaetter/). The ordinance is based on Art. 31 Para. 1 and Art. 43 Para. 2 No. 3 of the Bavarian Nature Conservation Act (BayNatSchG). We would be very grateful for your help to protect nature! If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. https://www.nationalpark-berchtesgaden.de/

Here you can see beautifully how nature manages to spread out in the smallest of spaces. A tree that grows up on a boulder in the Hintersee.
