⛵️⚓️Husum Harbour🧭 Life pulsates at the harbour in the North Sea port town of Husum. The picturesque setting invites you to stroll – at low or high tide🌊. Twice a day, the North Sea washes fresh water into the town. The tidal game can be experienced up close and is always fascinating. With crab sandwiches or Friesentorte, in a cosy café or a quaint harbour pub. A detour to the outer harbour, which is characterised by maritime economy - where you can admire crab cutters and merchant ships, is also part of a harbour excursion in Husum🧭⛵️⚓️.

Coastal protection Route Husum A royal structure Below this wall is the Zingel lock - built to counteract the silting up of Husum harbour. Already over 400 years ago, this caused major problems; The silt that came into the harbour basin with the tide settled there and severely hindered shipping. The Zingel lock was intended to dam up the river water of the Husumer Au at high tide. At low tide, the draining water should flush the silt out of the harbour basin. However, the hoped-for effect did not materialise, and the silt had to be laboriously shovelled or dredged out of the harbour basin. Incidentally, at the time the current Zingel lock was built in 1858, Husum was ruled by Denmark: for this reason, you can still recognise the coat of arms of the Danish king Friedrich VI in the masonry on the harbour side today.
