April 13, 2026, Schlosskopf Fortress and Viewpoint

At 1,250 meters, this large fortress complex awaits you with a view over the Reutte basin and the course of the Lech river. You can reach the Schlosskopf on foot or comfortably with the Top Liner. At the top, a panoramic path leads through the complex and to several viewpoints with a 360° view of the surrounding mountains.

Beautiful viewing bench at the access to the Ehrenberg castle ruins. From here it is only a few minutes up to the complex. At the same time, there is a lot to offer here: the highline179 spans spectacularly across the valley, Zipline and Ehrenberg Liner start nearby.

Höfen / Reutte in Austria: Every hiker should visit the suspension bridge near the Ehrenberg Castle ruins (as long as they are "sea-loving"), as it is both an experience and a change of scenery.

The Ehrenberg castle world consists of four fortifications in the valley of the Katzenbichlbach, through which today's Fernpass also runs, south of Reutte (Tyrol). In the valley, and today's entrance to the castle world, you can find the hermitage from 1317, which formed a military dam and customs office. Above the hermitage on a mountain spur you can find the eponymous Ehrenberg castle ruins, the oldest building in the ensemble, dating from 1296. The castle was a residential castle with a palace (residential building), where even emperors, kings and tsars were accommodated and made history. In 1645, under the Tyrolean regent Archduchess Claudia, the defensive structure named after her, Fort Claudia, a square rampart, was built on the eastern side of the valley. After an attack and occupation of Ehrenberg Castle was initiated from here at the beginning of the 18th century, a fourth structure was built above the Ehrenberg in response to reclaim and defend it, the Schlosskopf Fortress. The buildings lost their importance by the end of the 18th century and were partly abandoned. Today the castle complex is a real leisure event for hikers and visitors, with the two inclined lifts Ehrenberg-Liner (section 1) and Top-Liner (section 2), the Highline 179 suspension bridge with a span of 406 m and a height above the valley floor of 114 m for crossing the valley, and the DragonFly, a flying fox from the Ehrenberg castle ruins through the valley to the southern end of the car park. All four attractions are subject to a fee, while the castle grounds can be visited free of charge. In the winter months, the LUMAGICA takes place daily from 5 p.m. at the Ehrenberg castle ruins (fees apply), a light illumination of the castle with a different theme each year. In the valley, at the Klause, there is an adventure knight museum (fees apply) for children and the Salzszadel inn.
