Very nice castle located above Heimbach.
The castle was first mentioned in 1106 as the property of the lords of Hengebach. The castle later fell to the Count of Jülich. In 1687 the castle fell victim to a fire. The restorations started in 1904 were destroyed in the Second World War and later resumed. The keep, the remains of the palace and the castle walls have been preserved from the original castle. Laufenburg Castle

Highlight • Castle

Laufenburg is a beautifully preserved and well-maintained knight's castle from the 12th century. Amazingly, over the centuries it only changed hands through inheritance or purchase, not through military conflict. The castle was not damaged until the 20th century, but was partially destroyed in the Second World War.

After the war it was lovingly restored and today you can take a break on your hikes in a traditional restaurant in the idyllically situated castle.

Heimbach is a place directly on the Rur and only a few meters from the Rursee. The place impresses with its historic city center. Small cafes, restaurants and shops complete the whole thing. Also worth mentioning is the castle, which you should definitely visit. The castle itself is worth a visit, but the view from the castle of the Rur and the surrounding countryside is simply beautiful.

Burgau Castle

Highlight • Castle

The main castle of Burgau Castle looks back on an eventful history. Built at the beginning of the 14th century by the Counts of Heinsberg and given to Wilhelm von Burgau as a fief, the romantic moated castle now presents itself in a new splendor. Destroyed in 1944, ruined until 1975 and restored since 1998, Burgau Castle is once again the jewel of the city of Düren. The hallmark of Burgau Castle is the bay window, built in 1551 (donated from a happy marriage), which defines the image of the south tower of Burgau Castle. The outer bailey, built too French. Zeit is today home to the Niederau local association and a festival or concert hall for the Düren population. The castle café is also located here, where visitors can relax with a coffee and cake after a wonderful walk in the woods and around the pond of Burgau castle.

The Laufenburg was built in the 12th century by the Dukes of Limburg. Since the 17th century it has only existed as a ruin. In 1895 the battlements of the round corner towers were renewed. The current restaurant is closed on Mondays.

Beautiful medieval gate of the city of Jülich. Beginning of the pedestrian zone in the city of Jülich. From here you can stroll to the "Schlossplatz" or turn 180° and go to the bridgehead (Napoleonic fortress component) and visit it. The State Garden Show was held here in 1998.

Heimbach, with 4,500 inhabitants the second smallest town in North Rhine-Westphalia, is located in the Rureifel in the Eifel National Park. There is a lot to discover around the town of Heimbach. In 1959, Heimbach received city rights due to its historical past. Through the connection to the railway network and the construction of the Urfttalsperre in 1903 and 1904, Heimbach gradually became a center of tourism in the North Eifel.
