This is a lovely place for a rest on the Cape Cod Canal Bikeway. The trail is flat and paved, and you can ride eastwards from here, all the way to the Scusset Beach State Reservation.

The railroad bridge is a great curiosity as it lifts up and down to allow boat traffic to pass underneath. A wonderful thing to see if you time your ride right and get to see it move.

The city of Sandwich is the oldest on Cape Cod. In the contact period, Sandwich was occupied by the Eastern Algonquian speaking Wampanoag who aided the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony in the 1620. A lot of old houses remain from that time.

It should be noted that this bridge is not recommended for cyclists and even pedestrians. Really a shame that this link has been neglected between Les Deux beautiful bike paths that border the Cape code canal.
