This was a previously unknown point for me. The former accommodation barracks on the site of the only almost completely preserved forced labor camp from the Nazi era now serve as exhibition and event venues. In addition, visitors will find an archive, a library, an international youth meeting center, as well as numerous offers for historical-political education.

The tram ride to Wendenschloß already sets the mood for the tour. The riverside path offers beautiful views of the water. At the end, the BVG ferry 21 to Schmöckwitz is a good conclusion. Attention Mondays no ferry service, otherwise from 10:00 am every half hour.

Preceded by a moderately difficult and root filled path. Not advisable for road bikes.

The Eichgestell is a path laid out in the 18th century, partly bordered by oaks, which forms, among other things, the central axis and main path of the Volkspark located at the western end. The Eichgestell begins at Rudolf-Rühl-Allee (Alte Försterei) and ends after approx. 3.5 km at Treskowallee.

A beautiful view in both directions across the Spree River to Schöneweide. Among other things, the old industrial buildings are visible. Incidentally, the name "Kaisersteg" (Emperor's Bridge) in Berlin-Schöneweide is a reminder of the time of German Emperor Wilhelm II. Back then, a pedestrian bridge already existed at this location to transport workers from the burgeoning industrial plants, such as the Oberspree Cable Works (KWO) and the AEG factories, to their workplaces. The current bridge is a modern successor to this historic connection across the Spree.

Unfortunately, the new bridge, built in 2007, bears no resemblance whatsoever to the original. The delicate iron truss structure, designed by Heinrich Müller-Breslau (one of the leading structural engineers of his time), was blown up in the final days of World War II and was considered one of the most significant achievements of engineering around 1900.
