Unfortunately, these bays have formed due to the permanently low water level of the Straussesee. The formerly shallow shore zones are now above the water level, thus unintentionally forming smaller sandy shores that may even invite swimming.

The village church in Hohenstein is a medieval church made of granite masonry with white joints. The tower has been missing since the Thirty Years' War. The church was renovated in 1709 and 1724, and its interior was completely remodeled in 1868/69. In 1909, the wooden ceilings in the nave and chancel were decorated with a coffered motif by the church painter Wolter from Berlin. The walls feature funeral crowns, an old local custom in Oberbarnim. The bell dates from 1707.
