Hyllested Church on Djursland consists of a Romanesque choir and nave made of rough stone blocks with hewn corners, as well as a late Gothic tower and a porch made of rough fieldstones and bricks. The gables of the nave are original, while the gable of the choir is newer. The porch dates from around 1500 and has typical local designs. The church was renovated between 1964 and 1967, during which time the frescoes were uncovered. Late Baroque altarpiece from 1751, painted by the famous Danish church painter Mogens Thrane. In the church's altar is a chalk block that served as a repository for a saint's relic during the Catholic era. https://www.visitaarhus.de/region-aarhus/reiseplanung/hyllested-kirche-gdk606181

As you observe Skærsø Manor by the clear waters, you're looking at a place whose very name, "pure or clear lake," hints at its original setting on a headland within the lake itself, reflecting its deep connection to the surrounding landscape. Over the centuries, many prominent nobles called Skærsø home, notably, Sophia Amalia Benzon and her husband, the naval officer Andreas Rosenpalm, who took command from the famous Peter Wessel Tordenskjold in 1717. However, after his valiant command, his efforts sadly didn't secure his fame in the same way that Tordenskjold did, leaving Tordenskjold's (and not Rosenpalm's) portrait on Danish matchboxes to this day.
