Tips from the Community

May 26, 2026, Pfarrkirche Unsere Liebe Frau (Klein St. Veit)

The parish church "Our Lady" in the small village "Klein St. Veit" was first mentioned in documents in the year 1136, but a small church probably already stood at this location around 950. Klein St. Veit was first named as an independent parish in 1260. The church building, or rather the nave of the church, dates from 1350 in its current form. In the first half of the 19th century, the building was extended to the west and the church tower was slightly altered. Two things are particularly noteworthy about this church: Firstly, beneath the choir of the church is an ossuary with a central pillar, which probably dates from the Gothic period, and secondly, the bell frame of the church tower still contains an original bell from 1736. Overall, a very, very worthwhile and also very interesting church. Further and more detailed information can be found on Wikipedia at https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pfarrkirche_Klein_St._Veit.

Excellent new tarmac, very little traffic and nice climbs / descents. Much recommended. There is 800m section with no tarmac, but quite good surface, absolutely doable on a roadbike

I also recommend that racing cyclists ride the Tauern from east to west. Then, after a freshly tarred, great descent, there is only a 300m long, but problem-free, gravel section uphill. There is poorer asphalt through Wurzen, but then it is perfect again.
