The first lightkeeper began work here in 1840. But, by 1859, the government shut the light which was eventually lost to erosion. The light you see today is a replica that has stood as the same spot by Buffalo Beach since the beginning of the 20th century.

There are a few miles of trails below the 260-foot Mount Randall, which is really just a towering sand dune in Warren Dunes State Park. The trails are mostly packed dirt and sand, but if you choose to summit any of the dunes, be prepared for some slow sand-stomping.

Silver Beach became a county park in the 1990s, when Berrien County began to renovate parts of the beach. The St. Joseph River flows into Lake Michigan on the north end of the beach, the two bodies of water are connected by the South Pier where you can walk to the end of the pier for a 360-degree view of this premier tourist destination. The North Pier, on the other side of the river, is an iconic photo opportunity identifiable with its raised catwalk that connects the start of the pier to the very end where the famous lighthouse sits. The area also features an enormous Splash Pad, a series of art sculptures and the Silver Beach Carousel. https://www.berriencounty.org/1295/Silver-Beach-County-Park https://mymichiganbeach.com/silver-beach/
