In foggy weather you can't sunbathe, but it is still worth seeing and definitely worth a visit.

Very nice hike. Below the Gelmerhütte we enjoyed our lunch with a magnificent view. The route can also be walked in the opposite direction. Tip: reserve the Gelmerbahn in advance, otherwise there can be long waiting times.

The Gelmerbahn is worth a ride!! It was built to transport materials up the mountain for the construction of the dam.

The hike to the Gelmerhütte from the Gelmerbahn is very beautiful and recommendable. The hike leads past the beautiful and picturesque Gelmersee. But before that, the ride on the Gelmerbahn is a highlight! The 2nd steepest funicular in the world. So some thrills are guaranteed! :-)

Once an insider tip, the Gelmerbahn funicular railway is now known and loved worldwide. Since the opening of the new Stoosbahn funicular railway, it's "only" Europe's steepest open funicular railway, but that doesn't detract from the overall enjoyment - I promise. From Handeck, the climb is steep and swift to Lake Gelmer. From there, there are great hiking opportunities around Lake Gelmer (including the Gelmerhütte). For those feeling brave, you can take the cable car back. Alternatively, you can also take the beautiful hike via "Chüenzentennlen" back to Handeck to complete the circular hike. Early reservations are recommended, especially in summer, because, as mentioned, the cable car is in high demand and sometimes (depending on the weather forecast) even fully booked two weeks in advance.
