Just in front of this shop are a few rudimentary wooden tables outside and perhaps some bicycles for sale (indication of 'Bike Shop' on the window). In Belgium, this store corresponds best to a thrift store. Free in & out and at the very back of the store is a counter with thermoses of hot water and coffee. Wide choice of tea & serve yourself is the message. The toilet is located in the hallway past the counter. A bucket with a lid allows you to make a donation. You can relax on the terrace outside and with a bit of luck you can find someone there for a nice chat. (fun fact: the bikes are offered at 'astronomical prices', bidding is the message and is supposed to be done - dixit the Irishman).

Starts off gentle and gets steeper as you go up, average of 6% with a max of 17.4% before easing off at the top.

Technically a bridleway, but it's mostly smooth, traffic free tarmac... doable on any bike. If coming from the north head down a track to the left near the large pond to rejoin the road.

Yes... really! Not as impressive as I would have imagined... and no sign of any hobbits!

Good way to get straight into the lanes between Calne and Chippenham. Good for training too if you want to do some reps. Careful on the way down as it can be tight with cars using it as well!
