Lizard Lighthouse and Foghorn

Highlight • Monument

The building complex of this lighthouse consists of two white octagonal towers, between which a number of buildings have been erected. Only the 19 meter high eastern tower contains a light house. In this lantern room is an electric light source and a first order revolving catadioptric system with four lens panels and a focal length of 700 mm. This optical system generates a white flash every 3 seconds that is visible up to a distance of 26 nautical miles (about 48 km). The light is 70 meters above sea level. An electric fog horn on the tower gallery produces a tone every 30 seconds in poor visibility. (Courtesy of Wikipedia)

The Devil's Frying Pan

Highlight • Natural Monument

When the roof of this cave collapsed it left behind an impressive stone arch and 330 foot (100 m) deep hole. Depending on the weather conditions, you may see a calm pool of water or, if you are lucky, a bubbling sea that resembles a large frying pan cooking up a devilish dish.

Porthleven Harbour

Highlight • Settlement

A visit to the port of Porthleven is especially worthwhile in the early morning hours. Especially in the spring you have the chance to be completely alone and to watch the boats close in the fog. If it gets a bit rougher, even surfers around the pier romp about. The waves then pile up so tight that you can plunge into Brett (and Wetsuite!). Who likes himself.

Lovely walk, lots of interesting and varied scenery. We did it on a good November day and some short sections inland were very muddy

Beautiful little coastal village lying on the south of Cornwall. We stayed here on night two of our West Kernow Way adventure at the Harbour Inn. They were bike friendly and served great food. We watched surfers in the sea and the sun going down before tucking into local fish and chips.

Porthleven is a picturesque port on the south coast of Cornwall. It has become popular for it's array of restaurants, cafes and art galleries. The local market selling crafts and food is held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from May to October.

We've always done the hike the other way around to experience the highlights of the second part of the cliff hike. The original harbor is used for the village fishermen. A great experience to experience the joy of the fishermen from the fishing.
