Tips from the Community

Andy Bryant
August 22, 2026, Foy Suspension Bridge

Couple of other reasons to have the bridge : To allow parishioners from “English Foy” (east bank, Hole‑in‑the‑Wall) to reach the church in “Welsh Foy” (west bank) without relying on the ferry. Local accounts also note a more down‑to‑earth reason: the pub was on the English side, and a reliable crossing made life easier for both locals and ferry‑boatmen.

Hole-in-the-Wall is a settlement on the banks of the River Wye close to Foy and Ross-on-Wye. It's a wonderfully peaceful place to sit and watch the river.

Beautiful vista. Hard work. Plenty of gravel tracks (Herefordshire lanes and B roads)
