April 11, 2026, View of the Danube from Margaret Bridge

The Margaretenbrücke (Hungarian: Margit híd) is far more than just a connection between Buda and Pest. It is the second oldest bridge in the Hungarian capital and is considered one of the architectural jewels of the Danube due to its unusual shape and elegance. In the middle of the bridge, a side arm branches off, leading directly to Margaret Island. It was built between 1872 and 1876, based on plans by the French engineer Ernest Goüin. This also explains the distinctly French flair of the bridge (similar to the style of Gustave Eiffel).

A memorial cross in the middle of the forest: between Nagykovácsi and Perbál: which commemorates a story from 1909, interestingly, it was written in German (Austro-Hungarian Monarchy), but it also refers to the language of the Swabian population living here. According to the story associated with the gratitude cross, a man fleeing from a wild boar attack found refuge by climbing a tree - in the Mária Valley. The Horizont route passes here, essentially we find the memorial site a few steps away, in the forest.

Turning from Sikárosi Road towards the forester's house, the square opens up. The view of the meadow is greatly enhanced by the mountains in the background. In autumn, we can see crocuses on the meadow.
