It's quite an unusual bridge. Neither side is favored (red arrow), so look carefully before driving onto it.

The mill shop is highly recommended. It's open Friday through Sunday. A visit is a must! Thuringian sheet cakes, freshly brewed beer, eggnog and jams from Grandma, onion cake, and... ...all in a truly rustic atmosphere!

Great wooden bridge 🤩. But be careful, it's still busy in places.

Above Buchfahrt lies this beautifully situated mountain inn, called Balsamine. From the venerable old bridge (covered) over the Ilm River, a steep mountain path leads uphill (approx. 10 minutes). It is also accessible by car. It offers generous opening hours (closed Mondays and Tuesdays) with a comprehensive regional menu. Larger parties can also be arranged upon request.

A real insider tip in the Ilm Valley: The mill shop with its traditional German bakery offers fresh bread and rolls on Fridays, and seasonal sheet cakes on weekends. Hot and cold drinks and a small selection of food are also available. The flour for baking is produced directly in the watermill – and you'll find many special regional products in the shop.
