If you're in Trapani and enjoying your run along the coast, one route will take you straight to the Torre di Ligny. This old 17th century watchtower sits at the tip of a headland and offers not only the perfect opportunity for a breather, but also an impressive view of the sea. Once built to protect the city from Barbary pirates, the tower has an exciting history that you can practically feel along the route. The route has a very special atmosphere, especially in the late afternoon when the low sun bathes the water in golden tones. If you're interested, you can also visit the small museum in the tower, which specializes in archaeology and maritime history. The path along the coastal road is flat and easy to walk - ideal for a relaxed but still stimulating run.

As you run along the coast of Trapani and pass the Castello della Colombaia, a very special running highlight opens up. The medieval fortress sits on a small island at the western end of Trapani's harbor and is an impressive sight due to its long history dating back to the First Punic War. The view of the fishing boats in the harbor and the majestic walls of the Colombaia make the run particularly atmospheric - especially in the early morning or late afternoon hours when the light softly falls on the scene. When you run this route, you can literally feel the history in the old walls as you escape everyday life on the quieter streets of Trapani. There are no major elevation changes here for runners, making the route a relaxed choice for any training run. If you are a little off the beaten track, you can experience authentic Trapani on your own - it is worth paying attention not only to the Colombaia, but also to the charming fishing boats and the open sea.

It was built in 1671 by order of the Captain General of the Kingdom of Sicily Claude Lamoral, Prince of Ligne, during the Spanish domination of Sicily. It was built to defend the city from the raids of Barbary corsairs. The quadrangular tower, which narrows towards the top, was equipped with four masonry sentry boxes and in ancient times provided with lanterns. Up until 1861 cannons were installed on the roof and during the Second World War it was used by the Regia Marina as an anti-aircraft emplacement. The quadrangular tower, which narrows towards the top, was equipped with four masonry sentry boxes and in ancient times provided with lanterns. It was restored in 1979. Inside, in 1983 the Prehistory Museum and the Sea Museum were established by Prof. Francesco Torre, today called the Torre di Ligny Civic Museum, with prehistoric finds and a marine archaeological room on the ground floor. The Torre di Ligny now offers itself to visitors in its splendid guise as a deputation tower, totally restored inside.

The Aeolian Islands are otherwise the Aeolian Islands. The archipelago located in the Tyrrhenian Sea north of Sicily has 17 islands (10 small and 7 larger ones: Lipari, Salina, Vulcano, Stromboli, Filicudi, Alicudi, Panarea). The Aeolian Islands are cones or remnants of volcanoes, there are active volcanoes on Stromboli and Vulcano. The islands of the archipelago can only be reached by sea - mainly from Milazzo and Naples. Only three islands (Lipari, Salina and Vulcano) have roads suitable for car traffic. Drinking water is transported by ships from Messina and Naples, as well as from precipitation collected in special containers on the roofs of houses (tanks) and from cisterns located in the mountains.
