A good place to stop for a quick breakfast, a sandwich or a drink. A very cozy outdoor terrace, perfect where you can see your bike or motorbike at all times. The prices are very good. A highly recommended place.

At the entrance to Vila de Porrera, in Plaça Catalunya, there is this fountain next to the Cortiella river. This is an inhospitable, dry area, so the passage through any village should be taken advantage of to stock up on water.

One of the toughest climbs in the Priorat region. It's nothing like the other side. The climb starts before Escaladei, specifically in the village of Viliella Baixa. From there to the top it's approximately 11 kilometers. From Escaladei, it's 4 kilometers, 3 of which are very tough, with gradients exceeding 10%, although interspersed with flatter sections. It's a MUST in this area.

It is a very affordable climb dotted with some 8% ramps. From the moment you leave the town of Cornudella, it is a panoramic climb where you can observe the beauty of this area, both the mountains and the valleys dotted with vines. After passing the first section, which is the hardest, the climb is a succession of slides, where you can enjoy the landscape. The majestic Fraguerau gorge in Ulldemolins is a particularly spectacular spot. The park also features monumental trees like the ancient Teix de la Cova (Cave Yew) in Margalef.
The area is steeped in history and spirituality. You can encounter numerous historic hermitages nestled within the rugged terrain, such as the 12th-century Hermitage of Sant Bartomeu de Fraguerau in the Fraguerau gorge, or the Hermitage of Saint John of Codolar. The remains of the Scala Dei Charterhouse, the first Carthusian monastery in the Iberian Peninsula, are also nearby.
Yes, many touring cycling routes in the park are designed as loops. For example, the Tranquil Road – Coll de Porrera (La Paret) loop from Cartoixa d'Escaladei is a popular 51 km route with significant elevation gain. Another option is the View of the Montsant Mountains loop from la Vilella Baixa, which offers expansive views over 41 km.

Cycling routes often connect charming villages with traditional architecture. These villages are excellent spots to experience local culture, stock up on water at village fountains, and likely find cafes or small shops for refreshments. The broader Priorat region is also known for its wine tasting opportunities.
While specific seasonal conditions can vary, the park's diverse vegetation, including holm oak and pine forests, offers beauty throughout much of the year. Given the significant elevation gains and potential for challenging conditions, spring and autumn generally provide more temperate weather for touring cycling than the peak summer heat or potential winter chill.
Yes, the park's geology is quite dramatic. You can find several caves in the vicinity. Notable examples include Cova Santa, Cova de l'Os, and Cova Fumada. These offer a glimpse into the park's unique underground formations.
While specific crowd levels can vary, exploring some of the longer or more challenging routes, such as the Escaladei Charterhouse – La Figuera loop from Cartoixa d'Escaladei (47.7 km) or the Church of the Nativity of Mary – Santa Llúcia Hospital Cave loop from La Presa (61.1 km), might offer a more solitary experience due to their length and difficulty, attracting fewer casual riders.
Given the challenging terrain and significant elevation changes, it's advisable to bring appropriate gear for touring cycling, including a well-maintained bike suitable for varied surfaces, sufficient water, snacks, and navigation tools. Due to the park's 'Starlight Tourist Destination' status, if you plan to stay until after dark, consider bringing equipment for stargazing.
