The church in Groß Kienitz was first documented in 1305. It has largely retained its original form. Although the tower is based on the same ground plan, it was built as a fieldstone tower, no higher than the eaves of the nave. The extension on the south side was probably added in the late Gothic period. In the east wall, a group of three windows, which appears to be original, has been preserved or partially restored. One window each on the north and south sides also remains in its original form, albeit blocked off.
