Hörnum itself isn't beautiful, but the beach here is all the more beautiful. It's the widest on the island, and walking here gives you a feeling of infinite freedom. By the way: tours to the seal sandbanks depart from Hörnum, costing around €22 per person, with children cheaper.

Kampen is by far the most snobbish place on the island. While the houses are mostly thatched and built in the Frisian style, they are mostly not old. Much of Kampen has a "slicked-down" feel and therefore lacks a sense of authenticity. From Kampen, it's just a stone's throw to the "Red Cliff," a must-see. The beautiful lighthouse, "Long Christian," is also within walking distance from Kampen. Incidentally, this lighthouse was painted yellow-gray until 1953 and was commissioned by the Danish king in the 19th century. Sylt was, in fact, Danish property at the time, after the then imperialist Denmark had occupied large parts of Schleswig-Holstein.

A definite recommendation from us. Yes, there are L'Osterias everywhere, but here the service is simply unbelievably good and fast. The food is always top-notch, and the prices are reasonable for Sylt. The Aperol is really good. Absolutely recommended for a break.

Beautiful bike ride from Westerland to Kampen Lighthouse, Uwe Dune, Red Cliff, and the Cross-Marker Lighthouse Tower. Very worthwhile. Mostly flat.
