Climbing the Simancon from the west side was easy and quite fun. Same goes for the Reloj. Luckily we had a very clear day and could see all the way upto Mulhacen in the Sierra Nevada and parts of Africa. However, descending from the Simancon was not easy at all. It was difficult to find a specific route and one has to be very careful.

You need a permit to do the hike. It can be found through the process on this website https://grazalemaguide.com/blog/how-to-get-a-permission-for-restricted-footpaths-in-the-sierra-de-grazalema/

caution, some paths at the top have disappeared due to landslides. We were stuck and had to clear our own path to continue. Dangerous.

What a great view - 360°! The path here is steep but well maintained! Unfortunately, you can only get to the summit with a (free) permit (approx. 20 people/day) - register in advance! - . From the north, El Torreon is a steep wall, from the southwest: a real mountain path! It's worth it!

An interesting ascent/descent to the summit, pathless with beautiful friction plates (if you can find them: occasionally small yellow arrows on the rock), but hands are not needed, if the visibility is good: fantastic!

Incredible panoramic views of the Grazalema mountain range with the imposing Torreón in front of you. The ascent from El Bosque is tough, especially the final part before reaching the summit.

I did it today and, following the instructions on the app, it is very very dangerous, not recommended at all (at least the part from the forest to the peak) you can access it safely from Benamahoma

The mountain peaks around Ubrique are primarily found within two significant natural parks: the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park and Los Alcornocales Natural Park. Ubrique itself serves as an excellent base for exploring both.
The highest mountain peak in the region, and indeed the entire province of Cádiz, is El Torreón Peak. Standing at 1,654 meters, it offers incredible 360-degree panoramic views that can extend to the Rock of Gibraltar and the African coast on clear days.
Yes, permits are typically required for hiking to some of the most prominent peaks. For instance, permits are needed for ascending El Torreón Peak in Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park and Pico del Aljibe in Los Alcornocales Natural Park. It's advisable to register in advance, as access may be limited to a certain number of people per day.
The region boasts diverse natural features. In Sierra de Grazalema, you'll find a karstic landscape with large limestone caverns and 'El Pinsapar,' one of the last remaining habitats of the rare Spanish Fir. Los Alcornocales Natural Park is renowned for having the largest cork oak mass on the Iberian Peninsula, unique geological characteristics of quartzitic sandstones, and 'canutos'—deep ravines sheltering distinctive plant biospheres.
From peaks like El Torreón Peak, you can enjoy 360-degree panoramic views stretching to the Rock of Gibraltar and the African coast. Simancón Peak offers unbeatable views of the Sierra del Pinar, and on clear days, the Serranía de Ronda, Sierra de las Nieves, Sierra Nevada, and North Africa. From Pico del Aljibe, you can see across almost the entire province of Cádiz, including the Strait of Gibraltar.
The mountainous areas are rich in fauna. You might spot vultures, various birds of prey, and mountain goats, particularly in the higher elevations within the Aljibe valley. Spanish ibex are also known to inhabit the slopes of peaks like Pico del Aljibe.
Yes, the View of the Simancón and Reloj peaks, located in the Sierra del Endrinal, offers beautiful panoramic views of the Simancón massif and the well-known Reloj peak. This viewpoint provides stunning vistas without requiring a challenging ascent to the summits themselves.
Early spring is particularly beautiful for visiting the Sierra de Grazalema, as the mountains are adorned with colorful flowers. Generally, spring and autumn offer pleasant temperatures for hiking. Summer can be very hot, while winter might bring colder, wetter conditions, especially at higher altitudes.
Beyond peak bagging, the region offers a variety of outdoor activities. You can explore numerous hiking trails, with options ranging from easy to difficult, such as the 'Ubrique to Benaocaz Roman Road Trail'. There are also dedicated routes for running and gravel biking. For more details, you can check out the Hiking around Ubrique, Running Trails around Ubrique, and Gravel biking around Ubrique guides.
For those seeking a challenge, the ascent to El Torreón Peak is considered a rewarding and somewhat demanding climb. Simancón Peak also involves an interesting ascent with pathless sections and some easy climbing over furrowed limestone rocks. Pico del Aljibe is another medium-high difficulty trail.
Yes, the climb to Pico del Reloj is normally included in routes to Simancón. These two summits are linked by a karstic rope approximately 300 meters long, making it possible to visit both within a short timeframe.
Ubrique, a picturesque 'pueblo blanco,' is strategically nestled between the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park and Los Alcornocales Natural Park.
