Château de Fallavier

Highlight • Castle

Fallavier Castle is in the parish of St Quentin Fallavier. Built on the western part of the Relong hill (344m), it rises above the villages of St Quentin, la Verpillière and Villefontaine. The site bears witness to more than 1000 years of history.
This strategic location was exploited during the war between the Savoy and the Dauphiné (1250-1355). A document dated from 1280 indicates the construction work to extend and fortify the castle.
The castle forms a real fortress consisting of two walls and a mighty keep. While more emphasis was placed on the defensive aspect, convenience was not left aside. There are a total of 3 rooms, a kitchen, a fountain, a large hall and a chapel. After France acquired the building (in the second half of the 14th century), the owners with honorable names changed several times.
The castle fell into disrepair before the 17th century. Century. It was not until 1969 that the owner, Mr. Mérard, made the decision to rebuild the castle and bring the site to life.
The castle has been owned by the municipality since 1992. St-Quentin-Fallavier strives to evaluate and discover one of the most important landmarks of the local cultural heritage.

This church is dedicated to Saint Joseph, the foster father of Jesus Christ. He—like Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist—is a man on the threshold between the Old and New Testaments. Joseph came from the House of David, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. He was a carpenter by trade and the betrothed of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Saint Joseph's feast day in the calendar of saints is March 19th; in addition, the Church celebrates the feast of "Joseph the Worker" on May 1st.
