Of the Château de Beaumont-sur-Sarthe, only a ruin remains. The medieval castle was probably built up in the 11th and 12th centuries by the viscounts of Beaumont. It stood high above the Sarthe and, together with the motte, formed a defensive system on both sides of the town. It is now private property - clearly visible from the outside, but you cannot go in.
