It commemorates the Allied landings on Omaha Beach and was donated by the city of Bedford, Virginia, which suffered the highest per capita casualties on D-Day. The monument bears the inscription: “The Allied forces landing on this shore which they call Omaha Beach liberated Europe on June 6, 1944.”
